IDC Australia Expects Growth in Business-Facing Applications
20 Jun 2012
SYDNEY,
Australia, June 20, 2012. Organisations investing in maximising
business facing software will be the growth driver. Opportunities will come in
the enterprise applications, middleware and database markets, according to an International Data Corporation
(IDC) study.
IDC's
report, Australia Software Market Forecast and Analysis 2012 to 2016, details
IDC's analysis of the pent up demand that exists within the business facing
applications. This pent up demand is a result of a budget diverted towards the
refresh of infrastructure, which was required due to the flow on effects of the
global financial crisis.
"Managing
the ever changing information requirements of customers and business users is
an increasingly complex undertaking. Maximising existing software investment
will be a priority for organistions in the near term as this efficiency creates
a strong case for investing in business analytics tools and technologies to
meet short term demand" says IDC senior market analyst, Vern Hue.
The
total software market in Australia is valued at A$6952.5 million for 2011. IDC
expects the software spending in Australia to grow to A$9912.5 million in 2016,
representing a 7.4% (CAGR) between 2011 and 2016. The application software
market in Australia will account for the largest revenue contributor in Australia,
while the application development and deployment software market is forecast to
grow at the highest rate, 9.8% CAGR by 2016.
"ANZ
CIOs and IT decision makers are also increasingly willing to move more of their
mission critical workloads to the public cloud" says Hue. "With periphery
applications moving into the cloud, organisations now are setting their sights
on moving their mission critical applications into the cloud. The key enablers
in this transformation are driven by organisations' derived learning from their
past application migrations and the shift from a CAPEX to an OPEX model to
address cost considerations".
