Mr. Hanaoka is a research manager focusing on the security market in Japan, covering software, appliance and services. In this role, he conducts in-depth primary research and provides insight and analysis on a variety of evolving security markets, delivering strategic insights to help IDC's clients achieve their key business objectives.
Before joining IDC, Mr. Hanaoka was the senior IT auditor at a pharmaceutical company in the US. He has hands-on experience in IT system development, security consulting and auditing, and was actively involved in system security design and compliance implementation projects. Prior to this, he studied ethical hacking techniques as part of his research work at the Japan Police institution and taught at the National Police Academy.
Mr. Hanaoka's insights and comments are regularly quoted in well-known media including SoftBank Business IT, Nikkei Sangyo News, IT media enterprise and CNET Japan. He has also presented and spoke at a number of industry conferences including Nikkei BP, NEC, Hitachi, Juniper and websense.
Mr. Hanaoka attended Waseda University, where he majored in literature, and graduated from Western Governors University with a Bachelor of Science degree in information technology. He is also certified as a CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) and CISA (Certified Information Systems.
