Carrie MacGillivray is a Program Vice President on IDC’s mobility and telecom team, and is responsible for mobile services and infrastructure research. Carrie's in-depth analysis examines market developments, quantifies the market opportunity and provides comprehensive analysis for the mobile operator in serving both consumers and businesses. She leads the consumer research on the evolving prepaid market, consumer adoption of mobile broadband services and mobile messaging. Her insights also extend to the growing area of enterprise mobility including corporate liability from an operator perspective, M2M ecosystem, managed mobility, fixed mobile convergence and wireless WAN. Across her mobile services research she examines the implications of wireless displacement, the evolution of 4G services, mobile VoIP, WiFi as an option for carrier offload and the competitive dynamics between fixed and mobile broadband services. She also directs the research of IDC's telecom network infrastructure team across wireless and wireline and assesses the crucial role it plays in providing the transport for all telecom services - especially the evolution of mobile backhaul and the heterogeneous network.

Carrie also leads the SMB Markets: Mobility program at IDC which examines how mobility is affecting small and medium sized businesses (SMBs). The program addresses the strategies of software vendors, device manufacturers and mobile operators. Research includes examining converged mobile device shipments, voice and data adoption, mobile application usage and preferences of this unique market segment. The program offers critiques on vendor and operator strategies to address the needs of SMBs through competitive analysis and demand side research.

Prior to joining IDC, Carrie was a research analyst at Yankee Group in its enterprise research group covering enterprise mobility and general telecommunications trends. Previously, Carrie worked as a business analyst with Nortel Networks and as a management consultant with Fujitsu Consulting. Carrie sits on the Advisory Board for Mobile Enterprise magazine and contributes to the magazine. She comments on industry trends to the media and speaks at industry events internationally.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
