Jennifer Thomson

Jennifer Thomson is a research director for application life-cycle services in IDC's European Services Group. In this role she provides insights on the investment strategies and decisions of European enterprises around application development, implementation, management, and testing engagements. Her research explores the impact of new delivery and sourcing models, such as offshoring and cloud services, on the application environment, as well as charting the competitive landscape for these services. She also covers overarching outsourcing contract analysis (both ITO and BPO) and governance issues.

Thomson joined IDC in 2001. Before joining the European Services Group in 2006 she was employed to initiate research in the area of IT opportunities in the manufacturing industry. In this capacity, she provided clients with in-depth market forecasts and analysis of industry dynamics for ICT and business strategies in manufacturing and consumer product subvertical industries, and how they impact on vendors, industry executives, and IT users.

Thomson has been responsible for the execution of a broad range of consulting and advisory projects. As IDC's European expert on application outsourcing strategies, Thomson is an experienced public speaker and regularly presents at conferences and IDC partner and end-user events.

Before joining IDC, Thomson spent three years with Compaq Computer EMEA as a senior research analyst. Thomson has a bachelor's degree in international business with German from Sheffield Hallam University (United Kingdom) and Pforzheim Fachhochschule (Germany).
