William Stofega manages IDC’s Mobile Device Technology and Trends research program. This program analyzes a number of different topics related to mobile devices and technologies including, among others, GPS capabilities, mobile device operating systems, mobile browser, device form factors and user interface issues. Other areas of research include network evolution and its impact on mobile devices and the mobile opportunity in emerging economies.

Before assuming his current role, Mr. Stofega managed IDC’s Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) Services Program analyzing the market demand for IP communications services in both the consumer and enterprise markets.

Mr. Stofega has participated in numerous consulting efforts providing actionable advice on a broad array of industry related issues. In 2001, Mr. Stofega was selected as IDC's Rookie of the Year, Runner-Up. In 2004, Mr. Stofega was recognized by IDC for Excellence in Business Development. In 2006 and 2007 Mr. Stofega was recognized by IDC for contributing outstanding research.

During his tenure at IDC, his opinions have been featured in various publications such as The New York Times, The Boston Globe, CFO IT, The Baltimore Sun, Dallas Morning News, The Globe and Mail, Investor's Business Daily, Telephony, XChange Magazine OSS and Billing World, USA Today, VOIP Business Weekly, Red Herring and Forbes.com. Mr Stofega has also provided commentary on trends in telecommunications for broadcast media including CNBC, NPR's Market Place, Bloomberg Radio and CNET Radio. In addition, Mr. Stofega has also appeared on panels and presented at leading technology events and trade shows including CTIA, CTAM, VON Dow Jones VentureOne Summit and the Ottawa Venture and Technology Summit.

Immediately prior to joining IDC, Mr. Stofega was a Research Analyst with the Telecom Research Group, a subsidiary of Washington DC-based Warren Communications News. At the Telecom Research Group, Mr. Stofega did extensive research and co-authored the highly detailed "Inside the RBOCs" and authored "Inside The Bandwidth Providers" research report series.

Prior to his tenure at the Telecom Research Group, Mr. Stofega was a research analyst covering regulatory and legislative developments in the securities industry for nine years at Dewey Ballantine LLP, a New York-based corporate law firm. Mr. Stofega received both his B.A. and M.A. degree from the University of Maryland at College Park.
