Eric Owen has more than 20 years' experience in the global telecommunications industry. He is currently responsible for research on the European telecommunications markets. This involves the analysis of both business and residential user requirements for fixed and mobile network services in Europe. It also includes evaluation of service provider and equipment vendor strategies in meeting these user requirements in the increasingly competitive European market, assessing the impact of market liberalization, and the evaluation of new services offerings.
Owen has spent nine years with IDC during which time he has also been responsible for research and consulting services provided to IDC's Fortune 500 client base in the areas of telecommunications and computer networking in Europe. His work included such diverse projects as contributing technology assessments for input into clients' long-range information systems plans; providing product analysis in support of ongoing communications or networking procurements; preparing competitive positioning strategies for clients seeking technology advances or equity within their industry; and directly participating in clients' internal MIS conferences and planning sessions in order to provide an added level of objectivity and expertise for both IS and general management.
Prior to this Owen was a telecommunications manager for the U.K. operations of Otis Elevators. There he was responsible for managing all aspects of services and equipment used within the U.K. Earlier, Owen was the communications manager for an international division of Otis, handling the introduction of products on an international level. Before joining Otis, Owen spent several years at GEC Telecommunications, then the leading supplier of private telecommunications equipment in the U.K. Owen holds a BSc in electrical and electronic engineering.
