IDC Software Predictions 2012: Sustaining Software Growth in an Uncertain Economy
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time To register for this event, please click here.
2011 was a strong year for software despite a debt crisis in Europe and sustained high unemployment levels in the United States. The question now becomes, "Can this growth be sustained in 2012?" Though growth in GDP, employment, and software usually travel together, we are now seeing software outstripping the economic indicators. This suggests new dynamics and motivators for investment.
The four forces of Cloud, Big Data/Analytics, Social Business, and Mobility are the basis for new solutions that are driving competitive advantage and new levels of automation leading to higher efficiency and productivity. Add to this the impact of emerging economies around the world becoming a much larger piece of the global software business and the opportunities grow even bigger.
This IDC Web conference will present IDC's forecast for software markets in 2012 and beyond, specifically highlighting the best opportunities in applications, application development and deployment, and information access. Questions to be addressed in the briefing include:
- Which geographies look strongest for software growth?
- What are the next developments in the cloud platform wars?
- How far will enterprises go in the near term on the path to social business?
- Does a lack of skills threaten the continued growth in analytics?
- Where are the opportunities in an open source-led Big Data marketplace?
- What's the latest on mobile applications and application development platforms?
- What are the likely M&A activities to look for in 2012?
Session Speakers:
- Henry Morris, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Software and Services
- Stephen Hendrick, Group Vice President, Application Development and Deployment
- Michael Fauscette, Group Vice President, Applications and Software Business Solutions
