Abstract

This IDC study presents a five-year forecast for the storage services opportunity related to the delivery and management of Big Data environments, spanning 2012–2016. IDC estimates 2011 revenue for worldwide storage services opportunity for Big Data to be $805.4 million, forecast to grow to $3.3 billion by 2016.

According to Brad Nisbet, program manager for Storage Services research at IDC, "Enterprise organizations will continue to realize the benefit of leveraging the inherent value of business data. Capabilities and specific requirements among different business types or verticals will vary greatly during these early days of Big Data development. With storage being a significant component to any successful deployment of Big Data, so too will be the opportunity for services to bring these solutions to market."
