Abstract

This IDC study discusses the results of IDC's Search and Discovery Technologies' Cloud and Open Source Survey conducted in December 2010 and January 2011. To determine the pervasiveness of search and its importance within the enterprise, we asked respondents a series of questions about how they were using these technologies, what their priorities were for these technologies in the future, and what their attitudes were toward major issues like use of cloud-based or open source search and discovery applications.

"This survey data shows organizations are clearly moving toward new approaches and methods with regard to search and discovery, including the adoption and use of cloud/SaaS and open source technologies," says Sue Feldman, VP for Search and Discovery Technologies. "These are disrupting technologies and will change the marketplace for search and discovery technologies, including search-based applications."
