Abstract

This IDC presentation was delivered to a client in December 2009 and shares key data gathered in our 2009 SMB Telecom Emerging services survey. The presentation also presents forecast data on SMB telecom revenues growth, customer support penetration and SMB wireless displacement figures.

The U.S. based survey was fielded in November 2009 and returned 503 complete interviews from SMB employees involved or knowledgeable about IT decisions in their company.

Survey results are drawn from survey information focusing on bundles, broadband, and with a deep dive on emerging services such as managed hosting, security, storage, customer support and other applications being adopted by the SMB user segment. In addition to current adoption, attitudes and plans around future investment in these services is a key thrust of both the survey and this presentation.

The following areas are core to the survey and most are reflected in this presentation:

  • Voice: Type of phone system, churn etc..
  • Broadband: Primary Internet connection
  • Mobility: Displacement of landline and position in the bundle
  • Video: Television penetration into business
  • Unified Communications: Adoption, features etc..
  • Bundles: Type, most important services

Please note, for related Enterprise-focused survey results, please consult The 2009 U.S. WAN Manager Survey which focuses on the high-end of the small business segment (50 or more employees), medium-sized businesses, and large enterprises (1000 or more employees).
